Hello I have a question about this album if you don't mind? I own a CD reissue of this that I bought a year or two ago, and I thought it was legit. It sounds pretty good, seems to have all the right band info and I believe it was even listed as being remastered. It does seem hard to find, with only a couple of small online distros carrying it, but it really looks like the real deal. I'm looking at the CD now, and it was released by "FootPrint Records" in 2007. Is it really a boot?
Hi Rob,
I'm afraid it is. I have it on good authority from a friend of this site that it is. In fact he was in negotiations with the label when this CD appeared. The label owns the rights and had not given authority to anyone.
Unfortunately boot labels many times use the "remastered" tag to lure folks into thinking it is legit. Most of the time it is nothing more than a re-equalization process of the original LP.
Some things I would look for on the reissue: Does the label have a website? Are there unique liner notes? In particular from Mingo Lewis himself? Are there photos not seen anywhere? Is there anything on the CD indicating more info than what was on the original LP - or what can be commonly found on the internet?
(Funny thing - there's at least one bootleg out there that used this site as their "liner notes". That's the definition of irony)
Mingo was handled by Spreadeagle Productions which Journey's colorful manager Herbie Herbert was a partner. I believe both Mingo and Journey did dates together as well. It's a great album. Love the cover art too. I'll take the boot.
