News: Necromonicon releases new album of older material

We don't normally announce albums that are re-recordings, but this is worth the exception I think. And besides look at that cover! It's a recreation of their famous 1972 album. As a collector, if that doesn't capture your imagination, I'm not sure what else would. The album is a private release and will be available in both LP and CD formats.

2/14/13 update: As you can see in the comments, Walter (Necronomicon's guitarist) has a clarification - and he's right. These are not re-recordings but rather new recordings of material composed in the early 1970s. There is a difference! My copy should be here soon - I'm quite excited about it!

Here's the official blurb: "Since 2010 NECRONOMICON started playing again with mostly the original cast of band members (Harald Bernhardt, drums; Norbert Breuer, Git.; Gerd Libber, Bass; Walter Sturm, Git.). On the keyboards now Helmut Herzog is providing our as near as original Sound. In professional studio quality songs we composed between 1972 and 1974, which never had been documented in good quality, were recorded. The new vinyl LP HAIFISCHE (Sharks) plus CD as bonus will be published on December 22nd 2012. The cover reappraises the artwork and design of our 'Tips zum Selbstmord' LP."

Very surprised with it Tom. The sound is pleasantly vintage with light modern touches and the pieces more mature than their debut ones, proggier. Had it been released at the times it would have outshadowed the "Tips zum Selbstmord" LP. Needless to say that it's a must own.

That's great to hear Spyros! Especially since I already paid for one and I'm waiting for it to show up. I'm quite excited about it now!

Hi, Tom, I am Walter, the lead guitar player of NECRONOMICON and I hope that in the meantime you received your example of our new record and that you like it (you will have noticed that there is a CD with it). I would like to clarify a misunderstanding raised in your original blog on our new lp (thank you for the nice introduction): these are no re-recordings but original recordings of material we composed in about 1973-74, which then were presented on stage but which never were professionally recorded. We in fact only had some extremely shortened versions of the songs on tape, recorded on a simple cassette recorder during rehearsal sessions. During the following 40 years we always knew that there were some songs yet to be published in full length but we never documented them. Three years ago I happened to recover a tape which had been made during a concert at a school in our hometown in 1974. The recording quality was extremely poor but it presented the songs in full length and it gave us the impact to deal with this material again and to come to the decision to reunify as NECRONOMICON and to make professional recordings of these songs. Unfortunately due to copyright problems we had to change some of the lyrics but we are very content with the new ones.
Best
Walter

Hi Walter,

Thanks for your note. I understand what you mean... Yes, I think my note my have been misleading. I will change it!

The LP (and CD) is on its way to me now from Germany. I should have it any day now.

Thanks again for the comment!

Hi Walter,

I actually ordered it from Green Brain. And half the order has already arrived. But the portion with your LP is still in transit. I hope to get it today!

Thanks for the offer though.
