Iviron, Austria

Iviron. 1981 Silent Sun

Iviron were a band from Austria (not Germany as commonly presumed), who released this one unusual fusion album with many disparate ideas. Unusual in that they constructed their album more in an early 1970s exploratory style, but the sound was more relevant to the later 70s / early 80s time frame. There's a real sense of adventure here (i.e. a lot of East-West references), and even a touch of the psychedelic - a rare sound for 1981. Flute and wordless female vocals play a major role in their sound. Also contains some mellotron, not a common sound for the late date.

The album was originally released as a full length 45 RPM, which had some popularity back then. Klaus Schulze's Innovative Communications also utilized this tactic quite a bit in the early 80s.
